PNG vs. JPEG: Which Format Should You Pick?

If your PDF has mostly text, charts, or line drawings, go with PNG. It's lossless, meaning text edges stay crisp and nothing gets blurry. If your PDF is full of photographs, JPEG gives you smaller files with perfectly acceptable quality. Resolution matters too: 150 DPI is fine for screens, but if you're printing, bump it up to 300 DPI or higher. Just know that higher resolution means bigger files -- a 50-page PDF at 300 DPI will produce some hefty images.

Getting the Best Results From PDF Conversion

The quality of your output depends heavily on the input. PDFs that were created digitally (exported from Word, designed in InDesign, etc.) convert beautifully with sharp text and clean graphics. Scanned PDFs are trickier -- you're basically converting a photo of a page, so the quality ceiling is whatever the original scan captured.
